# Sharing jobs to custom sources

However, a high quantity of applicants doesn't always mean high-quality applicants. In fact, **custom sources produce far more hires than job boards**.

### What are custom sources?
Custom sources are any non-partner job boards or websites where CareerPlug doesn't automatically share your job. A custom source might be specific to your location, your industry, or the type of candidate you are seeking.
According to CareerPlug's latest [Recruiting Metrics Report](https://www.careerplug.com/blog/recruiting-metrics-and-kpis/#best-places-to-post-jobs), **applicants from custom sources are 3x more likely to be hired than applicants from job boards.** That's why targeting additional sources beyond the usual job boards is a vital recruiting strategy to attract more high-quality applicants.
### How do I share a job to custom sources?
1\. On your **Jobs** page, click the **three-dots icon** to the right of whichever job you want to share and select **Share** from the drop-down menu.

2\. In the Share Job pop-up window, click the link associated with whichever method you'd like to use to share your job:

#### Ask Employees for Referrals
3\. In the Ask For Employee Referrals drawer, click the **To** drop-down menu and select any employees you want to solicit referrals from by checking the box to the left of their name.

4\. Enter an email **Subject**.

**Note:** In the Email Preview section, you'll see a number of dynamic fields represented as black-tagged text. These fields — the recipient's name, their personal referral link, and their referral code — update automatically based on the recipient(s).
5\. Click the **Send** button in the bottom-right corner of the drawer.

#### Share on Social Media
3\. To share your job on social media, click the icon for the platform where you'd like to share your job: **X**, **LinkedIn**, or **Facebook**.

4\. Sign in to your chosen platform via the pop-up window.
5\. Enter a compelling message to include with your job posting.
6\. Set who can see your post to ensure you reach the right audience.
- **X:** You can't control your audience on X. However, you can control who can reply to your post by clicking **Everyone can reply (globe icon)** and selecting a different option.
- **LinkedIn:** Click the **profile icon drop-down** in the top left corner of the post to access **Post settings**.
- **Facebook:** Click the button under your name to access the **Post audience**. The button will display your default audience (e.g. **Friends**, **Public**, or **Custom**).
7\. Click the **Post** or **Share** button (depending on the platform).
When you share a job on one of these platforms, CareerPlug will create a custom link to track applicants from that source.
CareerPlug Basic and State Farm Intern accounts cannot share jobs on social media. We recommend sharing a link to your careers page instead. To find this, click the **Careers Page** button on your Dashboard.
#### Print Poster with QR Code
3\. In the Print Poster With QR Code drawer, click the **down arrow icons** to expand the color and text customization options.

4\. Click the **Edit Color** box to customize the background color of the top half of the poster ("Now Hiring").
5\. Enter a short message to attract applicants in the **Add Text** field.
6\. Click the **Download PDF** button at the bottom of the drawer to download your customized hiring poster to your device.
If you want to make your own poster, you can download the QR code only by clicking the link to whatever format you prefer: **SVG** or **PNG**.

##### What happens when candidates scan my QR code?
Job seekers who scan a QR code you've generated from CareerPlug will be redirected to your [careers page](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/configuring-your-careers-page?hsLang=en). Your careers page gives you an opportunity to showcase your brand, culture, benefits, and more. It's like your own personal job board!
On your careers page, candidates can search for jobs using the available fields, or click the **Show Me All Jobs** link (under the **Find Jobs** button) to see all of your open positions.
#### Share "Text to Apply" Code

3\. With your unique Text-to-Apply code and phone number copied to your clipboard, you can easily share it wherever you want (e.g., a non-partner job board or text message).
4\. Advise candidates to text your unique code to the specified phone number to receive an automated text response with a link to your careers page, where they can apply for this job.
#### Email This Job
3\. In the Email This Job drawer, fill out the **To**, **Subject**, and **Email Content** fields, including any relevant details for the candidate with whom you share the job.
4\. Click the **Send Email** button at the bottom of the drawer.

To have a copy of this email sent to yourself, click the **Send a copy to me** checkbox. To include any attachments with your email, click the **Add Attachment** button.
#### Share Link to This Job

3\. With your job posting link copied to your clipboard, you can easily share it wherever you want (e.g., a non-partner job board or text message).
This link won't appear individually on your [source analysis chart](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/using-the-source-analysis-chart?hsLang=en), and it can't be used to track applicants in CareerPlug.
#### Track Custom Sources
3\. In the Custom Sources drawer, click the **Copy** button to the right of the source where you'd like to share your job.
4\. Select **Copy link** or **Copy link with description** from the drop-down menu, depending on how much information you need to share.
5\. Post the unique URL (or unique URL with a description) for your job to the associated source.

You can track the source for candidates who apply using this link from their applicant profile page, when [filtering your **Applicants** page by source](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/managing-your-applicants#source), or when [using the source analysis chart](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/using-the-source-analysis-chart?hsLang=en).
##### Need to create a new custom source just for this job?
1\. Click the **Add Custom Source** button at the bottom of the Custom Sources drawer.

2\. Enter the name of the new source.
3\. Click the **Save** button.

**Custom Sources added from this drawer only apply to the job you are currently sharing.** To [create a custom source you can use across all jobs in your account](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/creating-a-custom-source?hsLang=en), navigate to **Settings \> Hiring Tools \> Custom Sources**.
### How do I see which source an applicant came from?
1\. Navigate to your **Applicants** page.
2\. Click an applicant's name to open their profile.

You'll find an applicant's source listed near the top of their profile page.

Not every custom source has an obvious name. Here's how you can tell which source an applicant came from:
- *"Referral Digest Email"*
- This means an applicant applied using a link in a [referral email](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/sharing-jobs-to-custom-sources#ask-for-employee-referrals) you sent to employees or they entered one of your employees unique referral codes when they submitted their application.
- Referrals will always have an orange two-person icon (*under an applicant's name on your Applicants page*) and an orange "REFERRAL" pill (*above their name in an applicant's profile*) as an identifier.
- *"Twitter," "LinkedIn," or "Facebook"*
- These sources mean an applicant applied using a link [shared in a social media post](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/sharing-jobs-to-custom-sources#share-on-social-media) on one of the three websites where you can share your job directly from CareerPlug.
- *"career-plug-qr-code"*
- This means an applicant applied from your careers page after either scanning your [QR code](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/sharing-jobs-to-custom-sources#print-poster-with-QR-code) or sending your unique [text-to-apply code](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/sharing-jobs-to-custom-sources#share-Text-to-Apply-code) to the designated phone number.
- *"Referral Email to Your Customers"*
- This means an applicant applied from a link shared with them — either [sent directly](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/sharing-jobs-to-custom-sources#share-link-to-this-job) or [via email](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/sharing-jobs-to-custom-sources#email-this-job).
- *"Instagram," "TikTok," "NextDoor," "Care.com," etc.*
- These sources mean an applicant applied using the unique tracking link [shared in a post on one of your account's custom sources](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/sharing-jobs-to-custom-sources#track-custom-sources).
- Custom sources will be labeled using the name you provided when [creating the custom source](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/creating-a-custom-source?hsLang=en).
### How do I track the number of applicants who apply from custom sources?
To see which custom sources produce the most applicants for your jobs, you can look at three different places in CareerPlug:

#### The Source Analysis charts on your Hiring Insights page
The Source Analysis charts show a breakdown of which sources your applicants are coming from, split across two groups: **All Applicants** and **Hired Applicants**. The Source Analysis chart can help you learn where you're finding quality applicants.
1\. Navigate to **Insights**.
2\. Scroll down to [view the **Source Analysis** charts](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/using-your-account-insights-page#source).

#### The Source Analysis charts in Classic Reports
The Source Analysis charts in Classic Reports show the same data as the Source Analysis charts in your Hiring Insights.
1\. Navigate to **Insights**.
2\. Click the **View Classic Reports** button in the top-right corner of the page.

#### The Source Conversion Performance chart on a job profile page
The Source Conversion Performance chart shows the number of applicants and job posting clicks per source, allowing you to see which of your sources are producing high numbers of clicks and/or applicants.
1\. Navigate to your **Jobs** page.
2\. Click the title of a job on your **Jobs** page.
3\. Scroll down to [view the **Source Conversion Performance** chart](https://adpsupport.careerplug.com/using-your-job-profile-page#source-conversion-performance).
